Over the weekend, thousands of Britons stood in the queue to catch the long-awaited sequel to 1999's smash hit The Matrix, The Matrix: Reloaded.
It's been four years since fans last "took the red pill" as offered by cyberguru Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne), and English audiences showed up in droves, resulting in a £12.1m box office tally.
And within the multitude who have quite literally bought into the Wachowski brothers' post-apocalyptic mythology, there is no doubt a fair number who have a love for all things fetish.
One look at the costume designs of The Matrix: Reloaded reveals why—there are as many examples of kinky fetish wear to be found in the film as there are Agent Smiths out to get protagonist Neo.
From the black, flowing capes worn by heroes Morpheus and Neo to the form-fitting (and very flattering) designs sported by ultra-hottie Monica Bellucci to long trenchcoats worn by the evil Twins and just about everyone else, Reloaded, like its predecessor, plays like a loving tribute to the world of fetish clothing.
Perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than in the latex/PVC catsuits worn by Carrie-Ann Moss' Trinity character. Whether it's that she kicks so much ass while bound in this shiny black costumes, or they just look so great, if you go out to a fetish club on a Saturday night, there's very little doubt that you'll see at least one pervy svelte bird encased in something very much like what Trinity would don (and doff, if the gods should favour you in such a glorious way).
Word is that the large and talented costume design team on Reloaded did quite a bit of homework on fetish styles (when they weren't starting their own trends), and the number of custom clothing made for Reloaded would boggle the mind.
(Rumour also has it that the third film in the series, The Matrix: Revolutions, due out in November, will even up the ante for fetishists with a scene centered around a virtual S/M nightclub deemed Club Hell, where denizens will be outfitted as if they've just left a Torture Garden soiree.)
But how can you get these looks for yourself? Well, one way would be to develop your own futuristic and fetish-informed science-fiction film, employ a bunch of designers schooled in the latest latex 'n' leather fineries, and suck it in as they envelope you in sexy, skintight costumes.
Right.
The other, more reasonable, way would be to shop around to the number of fetish clothiers in and out of London. Since London is, of course, its own matrix of perverie, and the fetish capitol of the world, you have lots of choices available to get that fab Matrix-inspired look. Here's a couple of options we like, just to get you started.
