Teagan Presley: Photo spread and interview with one of Digital Playground's hottest starlets. More»

The Fetish Marathon. The name conjures up numerous nightmarish scenarios: shoe-sniffing men shuffling around a dance floor with numbers on their backs. A grueling race to whip, cane and flog till you drop. An obstacle course of St. Andrew's crosses and spanking horses, suspension apparatus and spider webs of rope. Or worse: an endless panel of special interest speakers, each droning on about their personal proclivity: "My first experience stealing panties was back when I was..." It boggles the mind!

Well, the REAL Fetish Marathon definitely boggled. And way more than just the mind! Inspired by the annual Black & Blue Ball, the members of TES decided to plan an annual weekend of BDSM of their own to coincide with the dance party. Invited along for the ride were Gomorrah, SMack! and The Baroness. This year The Den of Iniquity joined the insanity that added up to over 72 stultifying hours of BDSM and fetish events. From Gomorrah's Wednesday kick off Meet & Greet to the waning hours of TES Fest 2004 on Sunday, there was more fetish fun to be had in the city that never sleeps than even the hardest core player could possibly manage. Enter, if you will, MY fetish twilight zone!

On Wednesday, May 19, Gomorrah combined forces for the second time with the New York Burning Man contingent for a collaborative effort. Beginning at 6:00, revelers were welcomed to Swank II: Shaken, Not Stirred, The Asylum Village Fundraiser with a James Bond flair. Fittingly, this unfolded at The Coral Room, a spacious nightclub with an underwater ambience of tropical fish tanks and glittering sea decor.

They were joined at 9:00 by Gomorrah and their second annual Meet & Greet. DJ Frances warmed the crowd up with a segue between Bond soundtracks and sexy lounge music. Lestat took over the turntables at midnight to spin everyone's Gomorrah favorites. And in the midst of it all, there were two stunning fashion shows by DumbClothing.com and Alicia's Miss Halo 5 Designs. The crowd cheered the libidinous models who engaged in assorted acts of lewdity and nudity.

There was an auction of human services onstage later in the evening, while elsewhere in the club foot worshippers caressed the soles of fetish celebrities. Spotted among the curious and fetish-clad: Masuimi Max, Mistress Mir, Mistress Wynter, Mistress Morgana with her girl Gina and a stunning, statuesque couple from Detroit encased completely in shiny black latex. But the scene that left everyone talking was Julie Atlas Muz, swimming in the 9,000 gallon fish tank in a latex mermaid ensemble courtesy of The Baroness.

Thursday, May 20 was billed as "New York's biggest fetish event," and The Black and Blue Ball did not disappoint. This year The Ball marked their eleventh annual with Supernova, a glam rock theme. It was held at Spirit, a cavernous new club in Chelsea that guaranteed there would be more than enough space for the larger than life characters - AND their even larger couture!

The evening began early with a sit-down dinner, hostessed by Empress Chi Chi Valenti and The House of Domination. Doors for the party proper opened at 9:00 and there were folks straining at the velvet ropes even earlier. The club was wonderfully appointed with a black light outer space decor. Vendors were scattered around the various floors and rooms, offering accessories, outfits and the chance for a free trip to Kink in the Caribbean. Mistress Evita and the ladies of Den of Iniquity presided over The VIP Room, a mezzanine overlooking the dance floor and stage. Tantalizing scenes of naked bondage and unbridled foot worship unfolded in the better-lit areas, while in the darker corners, kinky couples were spotted engaging in scandalous sexual behavior.

On the stage, a never-ending parade of entertainment offered the audience spectacle after spectacle. Tyler Fyre sent trumpets of flames high into the lighting fixtures. Goddess Miss Kitty performed her homage to Eve and The Serpent. Grrl group Grounded, The KhZ and Hate in the Box rocked the rafters. Kathleen Marie presented an electrically elegant fashion show inspired by Elvis, Cher and Marie Antoinette, among others, that can only be summed up as beautifully baroque. Shelly Watson channeled Freddie Mercury in an operatic Bohemian Rhapsody, complete with choral robe-clad back-up singers. Mistress Marilyn engaged in a sci-fi sword duel. And Leda dabbled in blood and politics, accompanied by the vocals of Angel Idealism and an imperious cast of dominas. Delicious go-go dancer Violet provided eye candy between performances. And the entire event was humorously emceed by the trio of Kate Rigg, Shane Savant and Penthouse Pet of the Year Victoria Zdrok. DJ duties were evenly distributed between Die J! Mars, Saint James and eminent guest Boy George.

Of course, all this was merely a backdrop for the real entertainment: people watching and portrait snapping. The crowd was simply spectacular and their ensembles even more so! I couldn't keep my eyes off the corsets and boots - or my hands off my digital camera. It was such an inspiration to see so many enthusiastic participants turned out in their finery in the face of what has become Manhattan's nightlife parade of the mundane.

There was an after party, but knowing that I had a full Friday night ahead of me, I sent myself home at 4:00.

And a good thing I did
