London Featured Event

Torture Garden returns to the Sahara Nights for their more intimate summer season of parties. The decor will be very Sahara, creating an exotic eastern ambience in a venue with four floors, a roof garden and plenty of private spaces to explore, including the lovers' basement.

We spoke with Allen TG, impresario of this long-running London fetish institution.

ErosZine: How do the Sahara Nights soirees differ from your larger events?

Allen TG: During the summer we take TG smaller. Our last party was our 13th birthday ball, which attracted 2000 people, but now it's the summer and our numbers drop off, so we will be doing an event for 600 people. The Sahara Nights has the vibe of a house party. It really adds something different to all the large events that we do. It has four floors and a roof garden and the venue has lots of nooks and crannies for people to get lost and naughty in. The party does have a much more social style and can be a lot more intimate.

EZ: How is summer nightlife in London?

ATG: Summer in London can be a mixed affair, but generally less people go clubbing.

EZ: You mention on your site that fetish clubs have become somewhat mainstream. Has this affected the size of your crowds? The quality? More interlopers?

ATG: With the internet, finding out about fetish clubs is a lot easier, and we have found with the press and TV exposure that we have received over the years, TG is well-known. At our big events like Valentine's, Halloween and New Year's Eve, people want to do something different and thus go to a fetish club. This has not really diluted what we do, but has changed it somewhat.

What's great is that these people come to the club excited. They're not jaded, so they have a great time, and it really adds to the night. There might not be as much play in the dungeon, but what we lose there we gain in other ways.

There really isn't a club like TG in the world. We are so much more than your usual fetish club. It's more diverse, with people from all walks of life, from goths to bank managers to clubbers to suburban couples, gay, straight and those in between.

EZ: What about latex and fetish wear in the hot summer? Any humorous anecdotes.

ATG: Just that us DJs drip onto the decks, which can be very unpleasant. And also that the two summer parties we did last year with outdoor areas...well, it rained on both nights! But it didn't stop people from using those areas.

EZ: I guess then the latex would come in handy! Since TG has become famous around the world, do travelers attend your events?

ATG: At our birthday party we had guests from all over Europe, the States and even from Australia who planned their trip to be at the party!

EZ: Any details about what sort of decor you'll be putting together?

ATG: Not for this one. The venue is great on its own. This party is TG Simple: no shows, no visuals, just a fun summer fetish party.

Sounds perfect to us!

In the Club Arena the DJs will be Allen TG, The * Ting and Jimmy Mofo spinning nu skool breaks, electro and hard dance, while on the Lounge dance floor they'll have DJs David TG, Pandora's Jukebox and Lady Luck's El Nino spinning Vegas lounge, disco trash, R&B and electroclash.

Infernal Mechanix will furnish the dungeon playrooms with BDSM equipment, and the soundtrack in the play spaces will be atmospheric and erotic. The basement rooms are for "Couples Only," and we're curious about how much action they'll get away with! Throughout the club, projections and installations will offer additional visual stimulation.

Torture Garden is a notoriously strict dress code event. For men, possible first time suggested outfits include "rubber/leather top and trousers or full military/doctor uniform." For the kink cognoscenti, they suggest fantasy, fetish, body art, drag, burlesque, electro freak, porno punk, medical, uniform, Oriental, militaria, cyber, lounge lizard, etc. They will not allow anyone wearing casual street wear into the club, so consider yourselves warned.
