![]() When you think Playboy, let's face it, you think of the bunny. You think of the beautiful girl in the ears and the outfit. You think of the little cotton tail on her tight butt. And you think of how much you wanted to meet a woman like that. It was a visual fantasy based on the layouts, the centerfolds, and the many spreads throughout the glossy pages. When I was a little girl, I remember slipping into my dad's closet to look at his subscription stash and the secret excitement I felt - either wanting a woman like that or wanting to be a woman like that. Years later, Playboy TV came along, offering the opportunity not just to see, but to watch and listen to your favorite Playboy ladies. Hot programming aimed at young horny men - and women - was just the visual titillation needed on cable channels. Now the latest Playboy revolution arrives in the form of radio - satellite radio to be exact. For a premium subscription, you can listen to Playboy Radio on XM Satellite Radio, channel 205. With hours of programming and a nationwide listening range, Playboy Radio has become one of the hottest things going in this new frontier. Playboy Radio keeps listeners glued to their speakers with shows like Sexcetera, a "contemporary newsmagazine that brings listeners what's next in the world of sex," and Sex Court, where pin-up and fetish model Julie Strain presides over this adult version of justice. But the jewel in the crown has to be Night Calls, a live co-hosted talk program that comes alive on weeknights from 4-7pm PST. Like a more sensual and appealing Dr. Ruth presentation, Night Calls is an adult oriented call-in talk show. It's co-hosted by the infamous duo from the more familiar televised version of Night Calls, Juli Ashton and Tiffany Granath. Juli has been with the televised show for nine years, since the beginning, while Tiffany racks up the hours after six years of co-hosting. The pair added the radio show when it made its debut on satellite radio on September 3, 2002. Now, approaching two scintillating years of live love-talk, I had a moment to speak to the ladies about their experiences on the airwaves. ![]() Juli Ashton: You're right, with television, the visual focus is the payoff. With radio, we keep it hot with lots of fun. We go in depth about anything - and I mean anything. What is your kink, why, and anything else that comes to mind at that moment. Tiffany Granath: Television is definitely a get-yer-rocks-off medium. We had to adjust our approach with radio, so we talk about things like either Juli or my last sexy night and what made it sexy, how to make things romantic or keep the romance alive - that kind of thing. We add the spice to the air. JA: Well, you have to remember that people cannot enjoy themselves on the air, although we do get those calls sometimes. But it was XM's policy, and we agree - I mean, its radio. Most of our listeners are people driving or long-haul truckers. Our motto is "keep two hands on the wheel, people." TG: We've had people say, "wait a minute, let me pull over" before they talk to us. So the next time you're on the highway, look at those semis on the side of the road - they're probably talking to us! EZ: How about the topics you cover? What's the limit? TG: We have guest hosts on who will talk about anything, from relationship counselors to dominatrices. (Past guests range from mainstream actor John Leguizamo to Ivy Red and her fetish friends.) We are allowed to get pretty hot and heavy over the radio because it's a premium service. JA: I think it's more relationship oriented, at this point. We've had authors on and discussed things like "how can I please my wife?" We have people who call in all the time and will discuss just about anything. TG: I think it's about 50-50 right now. Some is relationship oriented, but lots more is about people's fantasies and how to make them real, or learning new techniques on something. Like, Juli or I will come in and say "here's what I did with the man this weekend, and this is why it was so incredible" and then explain how some other listeners out there can do the same thing at home to the woman waiting for them. EZ: How do you keep it hot and sensual so people will want to come back to the show again and again? JA: You never know what to expect with us - it ranges. We will have a fetish model in talking about rubber, or we will have a therapist come in and talk about the five languages of love. TG: Like I said, we talk about sexual preferences or techniques. We're careful to say, "Look we're not therapists ourselves but here's our opinion." And we'll give them an honest look inside a woman's mind: what's really going on, and what we are really thinking about. JA: We have a guy who is deployed in Iraq right now who calls in whenever he can and tells us he's listening. We call our listeners "Club 205" (205 is their spot on the XM dial), and folks will call in and say "here's a shout out to so-and-so, because we haven't heard from her in a while." The listeners get to know one another, too. EZ: You talk about fantasies and fetishes on the air; what are some of the calls you most remember? TG: We get a lot of single folks out there who will use an escort, and we always want to know what the prices are. We're into price comparisons, I guess. I love the guy who called up and told us about the mayonnaise. "You've got to try getting yourself off with mayonnaise and a sock." That's a good one. Or I love the one about the guy who gets himself off with the raw bacon. He's got two fetishes there - the food and the smell really gets to him. We get some calls we just hang up on… like animals or incest, we won't deal with those. EZ: What grosses you out sexually? TG: Not much…brown showers really make me gag, though. EZ: Thanks ladies, you've been very revealing. Where can we find you off the dial? TG: www.tiffanygranath.com or call us on the air at 1-877-205-9796. JA: Come over to www.heyjuli.com or catch us on the show on Playboy Radio or on PlayboyTV. Wherever you find them, one thing is for sure - with their ability to talk in depth and with depth about sex, sexuality, fantasies and fetishes, Playboy is once again leading the pack in innovation with the move to satellite radio. Playboy should be congratulated for keeping the world of sex alive for all kinds of audiences, from those who enjoy print, to those who are into the voyeuristic medium of television, to those who love the low purr of a lovely lady's voice sliding through the stratosphere and into their ears.
