![]() Last edition, we were introduced to Trigger, The Human Equine, and the fascinating world of Pony Play. We continue this exploration into this fetish of sensuality and self-identity with Trigger and an old friend, Suzi Parker. Suzi Parker, author of Sex in the South: Unbuckling the Bible Belt, was pretty open to discussing her Trigger "experience." In one chapter of her book, Suzi met Trigger and through reading her book, I was introduced to the idea of serious Pony Play. Suzi Parker is an "independent journalist and lifelong Southerner." This gives her the ideal perch from which to view sex and sexuality in the South. Her book is an in-depth and exhaustive look into the alternative yet humorous side of the real goings-on behind closed, or sometimes opened, doors in the South.
In researching her work, she discovered Trigger online and then set up a time to interview him. "He was going to be in Nashville, Tennessee, for a workshop so I organized it so I would be there for his event." Going into such an event, one has to have some preconceived notions, and when Suzi was considering the meeting, thoughts of sexual kink had to enter her mind. Her book, after all, was about sex. "It (Pony Play) does seem to be a sexual kink," she admits. "I am sure people get turned on by it. But I think it also becomes a lifestyle (for them)." A brave girl, Suzi allowed herself to be persuaded at the end of Trigger's workshop to take a ride on the human pony. Trigger is an upright pony; so all riders are seated upon his shoulders controlling him and his movements from there. In the book, one is left wondering whether her ride excites her or bothers her deeply. When asked later if she enjoyed the experience, she admits "I felt strange at first. I was also very fearful I was going to fall off, as I don't like heights. It was unsettling mostly because he was dressed in his Trigger gear. But after a couple of minutes, it seemed somewhat more calming. Once I realized I could control Trigger by his reins -- literally control him -- I felt much more secure and in power. It was trippy -- and fun." Asked if she would repeat the ride: "Yes, most definitely." ![]() In researching this whole topic, many forms of information presented themselves, but one of the most credible seemed to be the site called Equus Eroticus (www.equuseroticus.com), which literally in Latin means "Erotic Horse". The owner of the site is a gentleman named Paul Reed, and he has created a realistic source of information, to say nothing of publishing a print magazine solely dedicated to the topic of Pony Play. From his enlightening website, we gather this information: "There are several types of Pony Play in this fetish: show ponies, cart ponies and riding ponies. Riding ponies can be of the shoulder-mount type, piggyback two-legged style, or four-legged, either on hands and knees or using arm-extensions. This magazine is devoted to all types of human ponies and to the different sexual gender combinations that exist. The human pony fetish is different things to different people and this magazine features many of these exciting styles. The purpose of this magazine is not to depict men and women as subordinate to one another, but rather as complementary to each other. Both men and women can play the Dominant or Submissive role, and many couples switch roles and develop new ideas as they act out their fantasies." So it's not just the male or the female who might be the pony in any scenario, it could be either. In asking Trigger his opinion of the piece taken from the Equus Eroticus site, he was vocal on his opinions. "I've tried most all of them (types of ponies) except the arm extensions. I think the variations all depend on the pony, the rider, the ability of the pony and the ability of the rider. What works best for me doesn't always work best for another pony. That could be from the other pony's build and endurance or level of play. An area I (want) to explore more is the endurance cross-country type of riding and extended trail riding. I'm more of a beast-of-burden type horse than a show horse." ![]() Is he the type of pony who wears the special boots that make one's feet appear more hoof-like? He's quick to respond, "Those hoof type shoes and boots are appealing to see on a human pony, but my theory in being a horse is not so much for looks and being pretty as for functionability and being able to endure real riding and such. I've mostly used running type shoes with the grips on the bottom for better traction." Many of the sources for this article reveal that there is a mindset one goes into when entering the aspect of Pony Play. Trigger explains this as: "When I get into Pony Space there are several levels; on the first and basic level I'm somewhat aware of the surroundings and people and just feel really good - almost like a high. (On) the next level I tend to zone in and out a little more; but the true Pony Space, the really deep "I'm a horse" head-space puts me in a very peaceful high and I usually don't notice people and usually don't remember seeing people that much. I've had people come up and say hello when I'm really in deep pony space and never remember even seeing them." Grooming and daily care of a pony or horse, and the finer aspects of being a pony: how are all these things handled? Trigger confesses, "I can't say grooming is not enjoyable to some extent, especially after a really long ride, but it's not something that really gets me into Pony Space or Pony Play. There are others that love the grooming aspects more than the Pony Play itself. There are a lot of sensations in the grooming area with the various grooming tools." Does Trigger's family know about his lifestyle? "I haven't hidden it from anyone, however; I'm not sure they really know but are most likely aware. I (gave) a ride to my brother's sister-in-law many years ago." Does Trigger have what most of society would consider a "normal" job? To this he laughs. "Yes, I was a musician for 25+ years and then did technical support for a few years while I tried to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up, a human job that is. I've known what I am and want to be for years - a 24/7 horse! (Right now) I am doing real estate and love it as a human job until I can be a horse completely." ![]() Having learned so much so quickly, the interview drew to its close when we asked the spirited Trigger if he's currently involved with a groomer or an owner. "Unfortunately, right now, I love my life more as a human and am seeking for that eventual owner for a 24/7 relationship as a horse experience. So, right now - no regular groomer and no regular rider. Why, were you interested (in applying for the job)?" With his wink and his charming grin, we leave Trigger as he goes off to one of his many events. And like Roy Rogers' Trigger, one finds him riding into the sunset as a lovely view from less complicated times, simple times of a horse (or pony) and his rider.
