Teagan Presley: Photo spread and interview with one of Digital Playground's hottest starlets. More»
10-05-2004

The current state of New York City fetish is sad and sorry indeed. The only regular events are produced by one promoter, and there are many who don't feel they fit in with the fanged, baggy pants'ed, post-adolescent crowd. Between the demise of Mother and the loss of the weekly Gomorrah, the nightlife choices for kinksters who like to see and be seen have dwindled considerably.

But it's BYTE to the rescue! Calling it "NYC's synth sexy monthly," Xris of SMack! fame and Marke of Vyagra and Miss Fetish NYC lore have teamed up with Clea Cutthroat, Dark Jane and Lucien to offer this seductive cyberfetish event.

Last night everyone turned out for the second installation. There were legends and luminaries as well as oodles of hot new bod...I mean people. Blinking, dreadlocked cyber kids and PVC-clad dominas packed themselves into the new Lower East Side hot spot Delancey Lounge alongside rocker boys, fetish dolls, hipsters and slavey sorts.

It was like the first day of school: reuniting with friends you hadn't seen for months and seeing a whole incoming class of fresh, young faces. The DJs were awesome, offering an array of standard dark industrial favorites sprinkled with synthy surprises and 80s pop tunes. DJ Ash was especially expert at keeping the crowded dance floor in motion, mixing and mashing like mad.

Gyrating go-go girls in imaginative makeup (and little else) gave it their all on the small stage. One was dancing so exuberantly that she broke a lamp that dangled a bit too low! Clea Cutthroat and Dario Speedwagon performed a few role play scenarios and shared the stage with Dark Jane, Lori Pop and an assortment of other sexy young things.

The intimate dungeon space was presided over by Mistress Harlequinn and her band of delinquent divas: Gia Maze, Erica and Ms. Mallory Pierce. D'Drennan was seemingly everywhere, though he appeared to enjoy the dungeon the most, witnessing the extreme scenes with an approving glare. A strappingly handsome gentleman offered his muscular back up for Harlequinn's hot wax torture and the smacking sound of crop on ass could be heard between the DJs' beats all evening long.

Downstairs, live music was provided by In-a-Sense, an electro-synthpop band, and Hate in the Box, the colorful shock rockers of past Black & Blue Balls. Animated eye candy was provided by SMack! video lab and Gabrielle. A blinking piece of welded BYTE art greeted us as we entered, a heart-warming little touch that I'd bet many overlooked. On the walls, additional art by Ben Pease, Ryan Mercer and Schylar Spillsbury served as further cultural distraction.

I held court in a corner, chatting with Steve Leather, The Baroness, Mistress Evita, Father Vincent and Big Bruce. Also in attendance were fetish model Darenzia, Domina M, Seven and goth designer Cynthia of Third Millenium. Mistress Aphrodite, Mistress Selene and Ken Feet were resplendent in boxer regalia, promoting their upcoming "Fight Club". Mistress Leda was trailed by her coterie, which included her wife, sister and west coast contortionist Jade Blue Eclipse.

My enjoyment of the evening may have had a lot to do with the fact that I was comped in and everyone kept buying me beers. But at a mere $5 if you're dressed ($7 for all black and $10 slob tax for those too lazy to try) and $6 beers, even straight-up strangers will be satisfied. There were drink specials too for starving students: $5 bloodbaths or vodka & Red Bulls and $6 Buds with a kamikaze. So there was no excuse for anyone to be unnecessarily sober.

And I found myself squealing with delight more than once during the evening. "People are just starving for this!" Our collective hungers have finally been satiated, if only temporarily, by the delicious deviants of BYTE.
