Members of the BDSM community have long bemoaned the lack of good networking conventions to expand their circle of friends, information sources, vendors of select products and more. BDSM is such a niche lifestyle that it can be hard to find the right setting in which to explore with others and to celebrate those aspects of the scene which deserve special recognition. In order to combat this, DomCon events were born.
A few years ago, Mistress Cyan from Los Angeles happened to notice an inequality between those who practice professional domination and those who follow BDSM as a lifestyle. Sensing the need for a re-association of the two, she came up with the idea for DomCon. Two years later, she selected her hometown of Los Angeles to host the first DomCon event, DomCon LA 2004 held last April. The concept was hugely popular. In August 2003, the Beverly Garland Hotel in North Hollywood was chosen to host the first DomCon event. Within 60 days, this event went from merely a regional event to a national event, and then even an international event. Professional Dominatrices, switches, subs and fetish models all registered to attend from across the nation, including Europe and Japan. By all accounts, DomCon LA 2004 was a raging success. The website is proud to boast, "DomCon LA 2004 was warmly embraced by the entire BDSM Community, and the success of the event far exceeded the expectations of everyone involved." With one triumphant event under their belt, they're now aiming to reunite the East coast much like they did on the West coast.
Onward and upward on Saturday as registration is open again from 11am to 7pm at the Convention Hall entrance. Walk-in registrations will be welcome at that time. From noon to 8pm, the Convention Hall doors will finally open to admit all attendees and walk-ins. This will be the start of the good stuff, including live performances on the DomCon Atlanta stage all day long. The schedule of performers will be posted on the DomCon LA booth.
Of course, if you're looking for a more formal lineup, then just listen to this: Saturday 1 to 1:45pm is Clients & The Business of Professional Domination given by Master Night Warrior and Lady Dragon Warrior; 2:15 to 3pm Pony Play & Pony Training with our old friend Trigger T.H.E. (The Human Equine); 3:30 to 4:15 pm Fear Factor: Facing Your Fears in the Scene given by Mistress Simone of Chicago; and 4:45 to 6:45pm is Enjoying Shocking Erotic Electro Play, SAFELY as discussed by Lady Robin & Dofa. Saturday evening's entertainment will be covered by your attendance at the DomCon Atlanta Fetish Ball Play Party from 8pm to 1am, held at 1763. Membership has its rewards, and it shows when only full access attendees and VIP guests are admitted at 8pm. All others will be admitted after 9pm. Sunday will be jam-packed as well, as the registration desk opens at 11am and goes until 5pm. Convention Hall doors open at 12, and there will be more demons, discussions and workshops. These start at 1 to 1:45 pm with Being a ProDomme in the Lifestyle by Mistress Simone of Chicago, followed by a 2:15 to 3pm Protocol Class hosted by Insatiable Amazon of Atlanta. The seminars end a 3:30 to 4:15pm Needle Play & Safety discussion with Mistress Painfully Sweet. The Convention Hall doors will close promptly at 6pm so you will have time to prep and prim for that evening's festivities.
Exhibitors for DomCon Atlanta include 1763, Achella, Brute Force Leather, FetishCon, and scores of other names. Bring your wallets; it could be a nice little dent in the pocket shopping at this event. With an ambitious goal to reunify the schisms within the BDSM culture, we hope DomCon Atlanta 2004 is as much a success as DomCon LA 2004. We'll be watching to see the results, and hope you'll of the convention with us.
