Two years ago, when the bags of porn tapes and DVDs began to take over my apartment, I decided to throw a party to give them all away. In the past, I'd unloaded my excess smut at magazine release parties; get a copy of the current issue and a free video too! But it had been a few years since I'd published Porn Free, my old fanzine, or Extreme Fetish, my bi-monthly kink periodical, and the smut had really accumulated. A party specifically for giving it away seemed like a sensible idea. Who would've thought it would wind up a national obsession?
On that Friday, Mondo Porno Goes to Hell transpired at Club Six, a cavernous nightclub just off Market Street on a seedy block of Sixth Street. The quintessential Mondo Porno band, Erocktica, had flown in from Manhattan to headline the gig. Lead singer Pink Snow really knows how to put on a show, with sexy stripper back-up singers, inflatable props and whipped cream to make the band's x-rated lyrics even more pornographic. Warming up the crowd were dyke rockers Chix Pack, crass crooners Crumpled Napkin and bewitching fetish horror band Whipcraft.
Downstairs, DJ Pinky Ring was spinning sexy sounds for the cast of Vau De Vire Society as they created a kinky kissing booth/feelie box, before they surfaced in the main room to cartwheel, cavort and dangle from the ceiling in daring aerial acts. Fudgie Frottage and I distributed the smut, sex toys, condoms, lube and t-shirts provided by Penthouse, Cybernet Entertainment and RedBoard. Ah, another successful celebration of smut!
